Fog Of War

Fog Of War is a variant they have in the "Play Variants" section on chess.com

You can see all your pieces and any squares to which your pieces can move, including captures you can make.
You win by capturing your opponent's king. Not checkmate, capturing. So kings can be moved into check or not moved out of check then captured. (You can also castle when in check, or castle through check or even into it). You are not warned when your king is in check (unless you can see the piece checking it because you can capture that piece).

A fair amount of chance, but I've played a few games there and it's a lot of fun.

So obviously, the feedback suggestion is "bring it here!".
It would be better here because I sometimes stream. Firstly, when I stream on lichess it gets alerted, plus my twitch account is setup for lichess layout.

It is fun to play, I've won a few games early on (as well as losing a few)
Doing a google search of "Fog of war" and lichess, I found 2 previous requests. @toadofsky had even suggested he had looked at implementing the code for it but it was difficult.

I found it a lot of fun to play, but like most variants I want to be able to play them at slower time controls to think more carefully, especially as the strategy is not one I'm familiar with (as it is with standard chess). No doubt if they did add it here, it would be full of 3+0 arenas and players playing very fast time controls. (The most commonly played at chess.com is 3+2)

I've picked up a few strategies already: ensure king safety, try to hide the king and you can also see if the squares in front of your pawns are available and if not you know there is something on them.
Fog of war would definitely be a nice addition. Been playing a hundred games on chess.com and it definitely has improved my mental image of the chess board (to the benefit of my regular chess playing skills).

It's great fun and it's third place on chess.com (after 4-player chess and bughouse).

There is a bug on chess.com and that is that if you can take en passant it doesn't show the opponents pawn, which I think it should. Also, I think the graphics for "hidden" squares could be improved (it's just another color shade now, could be a cross or some other symbol, for accessibility).

If somebody on the Lichess team would like me to take a look at implementing it, I'll gladly check that out.
