It seems to happen after I get out of the opening book...the engine works while analyzing the game but once I start going through the moves it gets disabled and stays like that
If I go back to the start of the game and enable it it stays like that but once I get back to the later moves it again gets disabled automatically and can't be re-enabled
It now works in Chrome and still fails in IE - the same IE as before when it used to work so it seems some server side change made IE or this version of IE not as feasible as before
I take it back, now in Chrome it doesn't disable but it's stuck in "loading engine"

that's weird, everything works fine for me now.
I haven't seen a technical FAQ about what you need to run stockfish/Lichess properly (except that chrome is the best internet browser for it) , is there a problem with your firewall, antivirus software etc? Maybe there's a minimum pc configuration needed?

The Safari bug is fixed. For some reason, Safari reports negative move times for Stockfish. I hacked a workaround.
My advice, anyway: just use a better browser.
