Why I gave up on chess

Just felt like telling this, so I started playing chess at 6 years but not seriously until I was 12 or 13 I got a coach and even played few fide rated tournaments at the age of 15, but I had to stop playing tournaments due to my academics and gradually lost the habit of daily practice i aimed big that I wanted to become GM someday but my parents discouraged me that you can't make a career out of chess (somewhat true) and then just got busy with studies and stuff and ....
but like gave up meaning you're not gonna play chess anymore?

Seems a shame to stop completely.

If u can't be a GM just turn it to hobby...visit your local chess club or cafe during weekends playing with your close friends ain't hurt your academy/study...

If they didnt, your results on the board would have done so anyways.

But with that logic, if you are not going to be in the top 1% of certain activity, why would you keep at it then?
